Not many oil companies have taken on the approach of increasing their production of natural gas liquids. The market is still strongly focused on oil. However, Exxon Mobil has taken a strong approach to natural gas liquids, and it seems to be paying off.

  4. Liquid Natural Gas: To Positively Effect Energy Industry

A couple weeks back we posted an article that stressed the importance of the U.S. exporting their excess natural gas being produced. This is a great idea. However, there would be a need for the creation of multiple natural gas liquefaction plants to make this possible.
…So why don’t U.S. companies just sell to Europe and Asia? To ship natural gas, you need to cool it to -260 degrees Fahrenheit so it becomes a liquid (hence the name, LNG) and can be safely transported. The problem is, while the U.S. has receiving terminals, we have no liquefying terminals. At a rough cost of $5/mcf to liquefy and transport to Asia, it formerly made no sense for North American producers to ship it, as they were better off selling gas on the continent…
    …LNG in the U.S.
The only exporting plant in North America is ConocoPhillips‘ (NYSE: COP ) Kenai LNG plant in Alaska. The plant is in the process of being shut down as natural gas supplies in the Cook Inlet basin ...

  5. New York Fracks No More

There has been backlash from a number of states who are not so accepting of the method of fracking to extract natural gas. One state that stepped up and is no longer allowing it is New York. Other states have considered it, but New York has made the first move. What exactly does this mean for the natural gas industry in the state?
The good thing is, the nation doesn’t need New York’s gas; New York doesn’t even need New York’s gas, with plentiful volumes available next door in Pennsylvania.
The plunge in New York gas comes at a time when gas output is booming in the rest of the country. Nationwide, since 2007 shale gas production has soared from 1.3 trillion cubic feet to more than 4 tcf a year. Daily gas output has surged to a record 79 billion cubic feet a day.
6. No Handicap Needed For Forest Oil in the Game Of Natural Gas

I haven’t been reading much about Forest Oil lately, but from the looks of things, they are working hard! Forest’s current management is making sure the company is focused on utilizing the potential gas boom to their advantage. And when you really look at it, they are the ones with the advantage.
