The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 had their worst start of May ever, as the Dow declined 5.7% and the S&P 500 retreated 6.4% this week. The five-day period also marked the Dow s biggest weekly point drop since Oct. 10, 2008, and its biggest weekly percentage drop since the week ended March 6, 2009.
