View Full Version : Canada stocks steady, poised for weekly gain

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Canadian stocks steadied Friday, with the benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index holding ground above 14,100, ready to post a gain for the week to reflect strength in gold, silver and oil prices. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was nearly flat at 14,135.2, but trading above the 13,766.76 it closed at a week ago. The S&P/TSX Capped Diversified Metals & Mining Index shed 1.5% but the S&P/TSX Global Gold Index added 0.8%. Shares of Goldcorp Inc. tacked on 1.3% and Talisman Energy Inc. rose 1.7%. Shares of First Quantum Minerals Ltd. lost 3.2% and Equinox Minerals Ltd. fell 2.3% with copper prices set for a loss on the week.
