Airline stocks flat after week of sideway trading

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Airline stocks traded sideways Friday, with the industry's sector benchmark poised to end the week flat. At last check, the NYSE Arca Airline Index was off by 0.2%, or 0.09 points, to 46.59. Earlier the index was up by a fraction. Of its 13 components, eight were in the red. For the week, the benchmark is up 0.4%, versus a 0.8% climb in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index . Shares of American parent AMR Corp. , JetBlue Airways and US Airways were each down a fraction. Meanwhile, oil prices gained 1% to $89.75 a barrel, recovering from a slump earlier in the week.
