SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. fell 7.2% to $40.92 in afternoon trades Thursday after Starbucks Corp. , the world's biggest coffee chain, laid out its intentions in the burgeoning single-serve coffee market. While Green Mountain has taken an early lead, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said in an internal memo that Starbucks plans to make "bold moves" in the segment both in the U.S. and abroad. "These are very early days, and history has demonstrated time and again that patents alone do not determine market winners-deep customer engagement, best-in-class experiences and quality do," Schultz added. Starbucks shares edged lower to $33.51.
