Financials open lower after inflation, jobs data

BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund was down 0.5% at Thursday's open as investors parsed the latest economic data on inflation and employment. U.S. consumer prices rose 0.4% in January on higher gas and food prices, the Labor Department said before the opening bell. Separately, jobless claims climbed by 25,000 to 410,000 in the latest week, the government said.
