U.S. stocks pare gains on Iran warship concern

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks pared gains in midday trading Wednesday as reports that Iranian warships would transit through the Suez Canal on the way to Syria brought worries about tension in the Middle East to the surface. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 35.35 points at 12,261.99. The index had been trading around 12,285 before the reports emerged. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12.17 points at 2,817 and the Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 4.60 points to 1,333.
