Mining, energy stocks pressure Canadian market

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Canadian stocks fell Monday led down by the energy and mining sectors as both oil and gold logged big losses on the day. The S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 1.2% to 11,557, with the S&P/TSX Capped Energy Index down 2% and the S&P/TSX Capped Diversified Metals and Mining Index off 2%. Oil for June delivery fell 1.8% to $94.33 a barrel, and gold for June delivery declined 1.4% to $1,562.80 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Shares of Suncor Energy Inc. fell 1.6%, shares of Imperial Oil Ltd. dropped 1.8%, and Goldcorp Inc. shares fell 0.9%.
