Mexico holds key rate at 4.5%, as expected

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Mexico's central bank on Friday held the country's key interest rate at 4.5%. Analysts widely expected the bank to keep the rate unchanged as inflation has slowed and the economy has shown signs of strengthening. Monetary policy makers in a statement accompanying the decision reinforced that view, citing an improved outlook for growth and inflation as reasons to hold the rate where it's been since July 2009. Mexican stocks were slightly higher Friday, with the IPC equity index up 0.1% at 38,176. Stocks faced a more than 1% gain for the week.
