U.S. stocks open lower but quickly turn positive

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks opened lower Friday, but quickly turned positive as investors hoped U.S. consumers would carry the day that kicks off holiday shopping and put concerns about the euro zone on the backburner. The Dow Industrials gained 48.63 points, or 0.4%, to trade at 11,303.46. The S&P 500 rose 6.17 points, or 0.5%, to 1,168.05. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 11.35 points to trade at 2,471.53, up 0.5%.
