Windstream profit drops by 16%

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Windstream Inc. said Friday its third-quarter profit fell 16% to $71.5 million, or 14 cents a share, from $85.2 million, or 18 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted income totaled 19 cents a share in the latest period. Revenue for the communications provider rose 6% to $1.02 billion. Wall Street analysts expected Windstream to earn 20 cents a share on revenue of $1.03 billion, according to a survey by FactSet Research.
